Extracting program files from windows.old

Hi, hope someone can help. My son's laptop (windows 8) did something when I wasn't around and he ended up refreshing it. I have located windows.old files but don't know how to extract them back to windows 8 to be able to use them. Is is right that I'll need to reload all programs as well to enable the files to work.



Please help :(

Retrieving files from the Windows.old folder

Refresh will have deleted all programs not supplied with the PC, Windows apps added from the store will be OK and anything pre-installed should still be there. Programs added afterwards will need installing again, any file created in formats specific to these programs will be unreadable until they are put back.
