Guest northamuk
Just recently, if I forget to connect to the Net and log onto a site or Yahoo or whatever, then when I mouse over the Icons in the task bar they disappear one by one. Any ideas ?
mark2
How recent, tried sys restore ?
Guest northamuk
Couple of weeks, probably. They also disappear after a couple of hours online - they are still there 'cos if you mouse over the blank task bar it tells you they are there and you can right click on tem. Guest
what happens if you open up the task manager, shutdown explorer.exe and start a new process as explorer.exe? This should reenable the task bar icons.....i realise that this is not a long term solution but it may help.
djohn
Don't know if this will help, but I read somewhere, [Think it was jazzypop] if you are having problems with any desktop Icons, [Didn't mention the taskbar though].Take your resolution up a notch and apply then OK, then immediately do the same again, but put it back to your normal setting. apparently this will rebuild your Icon display cache! Worth a try, might even work! :help:
Guest
tweakui that comes with powertoys also has an option to rebuild the icon cache, but i'm not sure wether it will affect the taskbar.
Guest northamuk
Nope, also tried TweakUI. Well it's not a great problem, just bloody annoying.

Boris
Northy,Is your "Shelliconcache" file corrupt ?Delete the hidden file C:\WINDOWS\SHELLICONCACHE ??? I think !It will be recreated the next time you start Windows. Or try the free Refresh Em utility from :- http://www.camtech2000.com/Programs/refrsh10.zipIt repairs the Windows Icon Cache so that the proper ones are immediately displayed. It does not stay in memory, immediately terminates after use and has no visible Window. Just click or double click the Icon each time you want to refresh the icons. Works in Win95/98/Me/Win2K/XP
Guest northamuk
Have removed two infected files both infected with Win32-t. Hopefully this was the problem.
