P E M F Treatment

Management has long had sleeping problems and everything that she has tried has been as useful as a chocolate teapot.

A couple of days ago she came across an advert for a device claiming to be the saviour for not just sleeplessness but virtually all the physical ills of mankind.

The secret to the success of this device was that it created and utilised strong P E M F (Pulsed Electro Mechanical Field).  The advert went into a long taradiddle,of semi technical jargon, in praise of it's capability and success.

A little more exploring the net and one or two other similar devices came to light, but most of them were only claiming better bone fracture healing success. I went and had a look at Wkipeadia and they too were only citing  bone healing acceleration.

So.......The question is "What knowledge and experience of this P E M F business is there within the  membership of this august Forum?"

Personally none and the machines I could find "EarthPulse" don't have UK offices, presumably as they'd be prosecuted for making outrageous snake oil claims. You appear to have located what little science there is with regard to bone growth, anything else looks extremely dubious.

On the other hand the Placebo effect is genuine, people genuinely feel better after being prescribed sugar pills, apparently it even works when people are told they're being given placebos. Homeopathy is twaddle, but it works for some people So if management has faith in the PEMF concept there is a reasonable chance that it could work, the mind is a wonderful thing.

What I can see science wise looks thin to say the least. But it may be worth taking a flier, as you say nothing else has worked.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but it looks like a judgement call for you, is it worth taking a long shot for however much it costs.

Can you post a link to the machine you were looking at ?

On the plus side if it doesn't improve sleep at least you will all look younger, become more virile and your horses equine performance will improve.

I reckon her sleeping problem could be cured once and for all if you plugged her into the mains - but throw a bucket of water over her first to ensure a good earth. Unless you wish to join her in her everlasting slumber - wear a rubber suit and gloves to ensure you are well insulated.

It is a version of PERM (Permanent Electrical Mortality Function) that is known to work.

I agree with the Celtic Horned God - it's unrefined snake oil from afar.

Thanks for your reply, Belatucadrus.

I am aware of the placebo effect. I think most of the things she has tried over the last two or three years may have been  just that.

I am aware too of the Homeopathic conundrum. I was an industrial chemist for most of my crust earning years and understand the dilution problem. I know full well about theoretical absence  of "active ingredient", but I am equally sure that in some way or other there sometimes is an effect.

I had a great friend for many years who was a Homeopathic Practitioner. He too was just as puzzled as anyone about how it worked.

We once did a "blind trial" . He had a wide selection of "remedies" in his cupboards and I was to go and take out a container and  without telling him what it was, take out a few pills and take then home and take one three times a day for three days.

I put the container in a desk drawer that he had just emptied for the purpose and he locked it...and gave me the key for that particular drawer.

The following Monday evening I went to see him and handed him the desk drawer key.  I can not remember now just exactly what the remedy was, I have a feeling it was "Phosphorous". However the main thing was that I had developed a rather uncomfortable pain in my right spermatic chord.  A quick rummage through a Materia Medica revealed that Phosphorous had this as a "keynote" symptom.

No he had not manipulated it in any way it was not the sort of thing that he would ream of doing.

There have been one or two tentative suggestions about the mechanics of it, at the molecular level, but I have not yet heard of anything that would convince Stephan Hawkings!

Can you post a link to the machine you were looking at

"EarthPulse" seems to be the only one in the U.K. ...Makes me a bit dubious .

"On the plus side if it doesn't improve sleep at least you will all look younger, become more virile and your horses equine performance will improve."  Hang on I'm 83 years old. That would be a stable door and horse  business.

I tried to keep an open mind about homoeopathy, but when they tell you how they dilute the product to a concentration so microscopic it's undetectable, indeed in many cases there isn't a single molecule of the so called active component present in the "medication", then they start talking about the water memorising what was in it. My teeth start grinding together and I get this almost uncontrollable urge to punch somebody in the snout.

My brother usually intelligent is totally sold on any alternative therapy/ quack science going :- reiki, crystal therapy magnetic bracelets, dowsing he believes all of it and no scientific refutation of this guff has ever shaken his faith one iota.

PS as regards the EarthPulse sleep machine as they start at $499 plus $49 carriage and they make it clear VAT and import duties are your problem you'd be looking at about £450 minimum. Combine that with the range of ludicrous sounding claims made for it along with quotes like this :-

EarthPulse™ gets no free publicity any longer (not since last 10 years) as the media is owned and controlled by fascists.

For myself I don't think they look too tightly wrapped and wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Yes,  Belatucdrus , the cost looks exorbitant, particularly for something that has no history or pedigree, and that is why I was seeking any information I could get on its efficacy.  To me it looks too good to be true at a price that is outlandish for what is in it.

I suspect it is, gram for gram, more costly than gold, but if the thing is as good as it claims to be it would be a small price to pay to get a good nights sleep for management.

Re. the homeopathic business. I remembered another little occasion of note. One of managements friends asked her if I could do anything for her younger son, who was about three years old. She said he was miserable  and unhappy all day and ever day. He would not go out and play like most kids do. He would just sit  or lie down and be miserable and cantankerous. She had taken him to see a GP and he had done no good. Her older son was the usual boisterous five year old young lad who had just started school.

Trying to get and useful information out of a three year old seemed to me to be a bit of a challenge and I was puzzled why there was such a difference between the two lads.

Then I suddenly remembered "immunisation" and  "inoculation". So I got management to find out if he had ever been done. "Yes " came back the answer, both.

I remembered my homoeopathic friend telling me about the old time practitioners prescribing a pre consultation doses of a remedy named Thuja to clear away any left over symptoms of vaccines, so I thought that sounded like a good starting point. Thuja has quite a long action period of up to seven weeks and so I was not expecting instant results.

Management took along the necessary pills for a weeks course, and instructions, and asked her friend to keep us informed.

Two months went by and we heard nothing from the friend. Then one day, after a few more weeks had passed, management happened to see her friend in a Supermarket . With her was her three year old son. He was running up and down etc.  just like any three year old would. He had been transformed. What had happened.

Well apparently one day, after about seven weeks he had started coughing and had coughed up a mass of nasty looking green stuff and then gone to sleep for a few hours. When he arose he had changed totally and started running about like his brother.

I've been looking at some of the other products publications available from EarthPulse

  1. Controlling the human mind
  2. ESP induction through forms of self hypnosis
  3. Dietary Supplements – Earthpulse Nanotronic Nutrients ( Nano Tronic & Nutrients are words that don't belong together )

and several others, not one of which looks other than quackery and mumbo jumbo, a case of the more I look the less I like.

Oddly enough I too have been delving , and all I could recognise was the smell of bovine excrement. But since much of the native language over there is just that it was not a big surprise.

PEMF research, videos or testimonials on our site or others are not offered to suggest or imply that you will achieve similar results with use of our Magnetic Supplementation – Sleep on Command™ device and methods.

Worldwide, there are no governmental health agencies that recognize a need to supplement natural magnetic fields.

Magnetic Therapy Bahamas, Ltd. / Sleep Tech Intl, Ltd / EarthPulse Technologies, LLC make no medical claims real or implied as to benefit of our device and methods.

So the testimonials are all meaningless, nobody official recommends or has subjected them to recognisable test procedures and one of the distribution offices specifically distances itself from any suggestion that the device could work.

I have now found a UK source of equipment of a similar type made in Germany which is claimed to be very successful with sleep induction and with a thirty day return if not satisfied.

I think we may go with that. Its a bit pricey but I reckon it will be cheaper that the funeral that will be needed if something suitable is not found soon!!!

I got a news flash that you had posted you latest message as I was typing the above.

Your discoveries are just about par for the American course.

I have exchanged messages with a fellow at the company that mentioned above and I feel reasonably comfortable particularly when he told me of the 30 day business.

Management does need some serious assistance with her problem so I feel we may go that way.

All I need now is a bushel of joss sticks and a blank cheque.

Today we shall have a day of reflection, but it looks like the boss has almost made up her mind and the UK outfit will be getting an order as soon as she can find my card.

To days's priority is a trip over to Gargrave to my sisters 80th birthday bash.

I just thought some one out there may be sad enough to wonder how the above birthday bash went. Well she does not improve with age.

It was very much like she did for her seventieth but ten years worse for wear. However we all came out of it alive.
