mother of a storm

the bang was ~2-3 secs after the flash.

I had it right over my head at work once!

Saw the lightning and at the same time there was a screech as the air was ripped apart just above me, then milliseconds later a huge bang as the thunder came.

why do you need to unplug your pc in a storm?

If lightning hit on or around a power line or a phone line it could cause a power spike that would cripple the sensitive components within your PC, a surge protector is designed to prevent this so every one should have 1 that covers power and phone lines.

My PC was recently taken out in a power spike, I replaced virtually everything until I figured out it was the CPU that had blown, I now have a surge protector
