Tony
Hi allMy setup here is 2 computers connected to a Netgear RT-314 Router which in turn is connected to my DSL Modem. One PC is running XP Home & the other W2K.Now since last night my XP home PC can not connect to the Internet or mail server, it also will not ping any sites, it will still connect to the other PC so i am guessing that this means that the NIC is still OK?.The W2K system is fine and is connecting to every thing as normal, so i know that my ISP is not down.I have changed nothing on the XP system to make this happen. I am running Kerio Firewall on it and can't connect weather i turn the firewall off or on, XP's Firewall has always been disabled, and still is.I have checked in Device Manager and nothing is showing up as abnormal.I am installing W2k onto a different hdd in the XP system (just quickly to check that it is not a hardware fault, i wont be using it after this check), now if it connects fine with the W2K installed then the hardware is fine, so it is something with XP, but i have no idea what else to look for now.So can anybody help???CheersTony
Tony
Ok i would install W2k on it, but w2k will not see my USB mouse , so i will install it later, when i dig out my old PS2 one. Cheers Tony
Guest nellie2
This is a long shot but have you done a check for a worm or trojan??? Is there anything showing in the error logs??
mark2
Is it possible that somehow router connections have been corrupted? Not allowing outbound access for that PC ?
Tony
Hi I have had the router for 2 years now and have never messed around with it, untill wednesday when i entered my new login details for my new connection with Tiscali, and things have been fine untill last night. I have never had to enter any settings with it, in xp or w2k all i have ever done with a new instertlation of either is use the connection wizard and tell it that i connect through a Lan. I can't see how anything could of been corrupted in the router, and any idea what i look for to check??Nellie Nothing is showing up in the logs from what i can tell, and AVG 7 does a full scan every morning, and is saying that i am clean. Cheers for your help Tony
Craig
Hi Tony.I have a Netgear MR814 v2 router with two computers connected to it via wireless PC cards. My Blueyonder modem is pluged into the back of it, and as of yet i have had very few problems with it.The only thing i can suggest at the moment is to hit the reset button on the router so everything is set back to default, and then access the admin section via your browser and enter your new internet account information.Craig. Tony
HiThanks for that.At the moment i am doing the w2k install, so if it still does not work, i will set the router back to default as you say, and see if it helps.Tony
Tony
Hi allOk i have just finished the install of w2k, and i am having the same problem.so in my eyes this tell me that the problem is hardware based, either my NIC or my router. but which one, as the working for the other system and my NIC still lets me connect to the other pc ???CheersTony
mark2
Have you tried connecting through different connection ports on the router ?Can you change them round? What result ?A different model router but same brand type in http://192.168.0.1/ into IE address bar, should take you to the router login User Name = adminPassword = 1234 these are usually the defaults. Can the faulty comp 'see' the modem config pages ? type in http://192.168.100.1/ into IE address bar.Can you connect direct to the net with the faulty comp by bypassing the router? Also spikeychris has posted http://www.windowsforum.org/support/forum/...?showtopic=5626 with a few links which may help more than I can ;)
Tony
Thanks for the advice, but i have got it sorted now, by resetting the Router to default settings, and then doing the whole setup again, and it is now fine. As to what made it go wrong in the first place i have not got a clue. Cheers Tony
