Craig
Hi all,Alan1937 previously brought the PayPal Email Scam to our attention in this topic, however i thought i would create a new topic with a screen grab of the email as i have just recieved one.The email looks like this...I was already aware that this email was going around thanks to Alan1937, but if you did not read that particular topic, their are tell-tale signs that it is not genuine. To start with, any PayPal customer will see that the text font is not of the same as it usually is. Secondly, no matter where you click on the text, it will attempt to send you to the scamers site, instead of having to click on the link.Another sign is that in this particular email, it has not been formatted correctly as at the bottom it says "". Looks like a simple copy and past job gone wrong. However, because the email has not been correctly formated, any standard user wanting to click the link and provide there credit card details cannot, as the link doesnt work.I have viewed the source code and have found the following link though...PLEASE DO NOT PROVIDE ANY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION WHEN CLICKING THE FOLLOWING LINK, IT IS A SCAM SITE.PAYPAL SCAM SITEOnce you click the link you will notice that you are not at the paypal site, but they have done a good job at making their site look like paypals. Some times it can be very difficult to tell what is and isnt dodgy, so as a general rule, you will be asked to provide credit card details via email, and never give them via a website that does not have a padlock shown at the bottom of your browser. If you are in doubt, either post here at Windows Forum or contact the help department of the site involved, but be sure to tap the address into the address bar and not click any links provided to you via email. andsome
I never use Pay Pal, I have heard several bad reports about it.Also I think that people should realise that reputable company's would never send an mail asking for personal details. You will only be asked for details after you have visited a website voluntarily.
Craig
I never use Pay Pal, I have heard several bad reports about it.It is a bit of a rip off.Afterall it is an eBay company. For example, i have sold a few items on ebay, you get charged a listing fee which is a couple of pounds, and then a % of the final selling price. Then if you have allow the buyer to pay you using paypal, you get charge another 2.5%.However i did have a problem with a seller about 4 weeks ago, and a sum of £300 was involved. Luckily, after using the PayPal dispute service, after 4 weeks i got my money back.
-pops-
Afterall it is an eBay company. That explains why I've received this PayPal mailing and a similar one from ebay.As I've said elsewhere, I've never used either and never would do.Brian
Guest ellas
yeah the only thing not right about the site is its not https only http so thats a dead giveaway.as craig says at least paypal offers some sort of comeback if you buy at the likes of ebay, otherwise he would have lost his money.
