Panetone, indestructible or not ?

Just found an ancient Panetone lurking in the back of the pantry cupboard, best by date June 2020. Took it out of the packaging ready to chuck it out for the squirrels, then I looked at it. Looked OK to me so I cut a slice, smelt fine looked fine. Ate it, tastes fine.

Are these things indestructible, any other cake would have turned into a pile of dust and mold ?
