 Sorry andsome English arn't taught in schools any more. You and I come from a different time. :D

Grand Dad

I think that there is an attempt to teach a modicum of English in English lessons. However, it is a fact in a good many schools, that when marking other lessons, such as history or geography etc, incorrect spelling and grammar are not corrected. This to my mind is absolutely ridiculous. All this combined with the increasing use of Americanism's has unfortunately completely ruined our language. I deplore the regular use of the word 'absolutely' as a sentence, for example, "are you going out tonight", REPLY, "absolutely". I also despair at the repeated use of the word "like", for example "and I was 'like' annoyed". Maybe I am old fashioned, but I cannot see why we do not stick with our own language. If the Americans wish to have an Americanised version of English, then that is their choice, and they have the freedom to do so, but why do we have to adopt it? At the opposite end of the scale of course, we have the rather pointless and silly use of French in menu's in expensive restaurants.
