doug
God, you guys are quick off the mark. Have just been rummaging through the wife's drawers and found her Woman's Weekly "New Cookery" Book 1971 15p The temperatures ar given in F and agree with those above but the C conversions are a bit off. However, as a cooking green horn I noted a confounding problem. It Talks about position in the oven Presumably, this is so you can take the first item to be cooked off the top shelf, etc.

Tony
Thanks guysI always cook my Xmas Turkey slowly over night, and as i am going out soon to get nice and drunk, all i want to do is stick it in the oven about 11 pm tonight when i get back, and i don't think i will be in any fit state to start worrying about converting gasmarks to °C at that time  .so thanks for your timeTony
doug
Don't forget. If your going to enjoy yourself, it's important as to how you put it in. Top Middle or bottom! :)
Tony
Well the bottom of the Turkey will be at the bottom of the oven. The middle of the Turkey will be at the middle of the oven. The top of the Turkey will be at the top of the oven.So i am covering all bases, so i should be ok :D CheersTony
