doug Posted January 24, 2004 Report Share Posted January 24, 2004 Had persuaded elderly next door neighbour to invest in a Freeview box. Got it rigged up for her. Aerial into the box via a splitter, the other side to her video then up to the TV. The box is linked to the TV by a scart lead. I've also connected the video to the TV via a scart lead. Now, Digital channels are all fine, Analogue channels to the TV via the Freeview box still OK but channel 5 picture has deteriorated. The problem is the video. Can get all 5 analogue channels and a prerecorded tape to play - all OK except again the channel 5 picture. However, I cannot get any sound via the video box. I know the scart lead is OK - I think - because It's from my TV here. I thought I'd check out this stage before opening the new boxed lead I bought her. Basically help. There's only one scart socket on the freeview box so I've taken that straight to one of the TV sockets.I've taken the video scart socket to the other TV socket.Come on folks. These are all good thoughts for me to work through. As I said earlier, can anyone post the pin connections for scart leads? I've noticed somewhere that you should use fully populated cables. Although I said the scart lead worked on my setup, it may not be for the reasons I thought so I'd like to check that it is a fully populated cable. doug Posted January 28, 2004 Author Report Share Posted January 28, 2004 Got it fixed folks. I think it was Shirley's suggestion that worked. I checked the pin connections on the scart lead and they were OK. Then moved all the equipment so I could see properly and found that the scart lead went much further home. After I faffed on with the combinations of AV 1 & 2 was able to get the video and sound.I've got some further questions regarding popeye's set up so I asked for this to be closed and start a new link. Thanks again. Mind Jean next door did comment when I went in this pm that she was getting a very snowy picture on channel 5. I reminded her that I had said this would happen and wasn't she using the digital box. No she said she uses the old set up for the 1 to 5 channels and only the new thingy when she wanted to see what was on on the new channels.
