ironing

Heat the iron to its hottest and use it to iron an old piece of cotton or (preferably) linen cloth. Press down hard and move to a different piece of the cloth with each pass of the iron. The molten whatever it is should gradually be removed. DO NOT use any other type of cloth to do this. Cotton/polyester blends and suchlike are definite a no-no.

Failing that you could very carefully heat the iron as above and remove the deposit with one of those modern steel wool pan scourers - the stainless steel type. Be careful if you do this though so as not to scratch the plate. :)

Silly me, I've got some marks on my irons' soleplate and I cant get them off.  :(

Obviously used it too hot and it's stuck on the bottom.

Anyone know how I get it off? It's stainless steel by the way

Thanks

What were the marks on the soleplate??? ...Did you stand your iron next to a bread-bag or summat???

If you did you could've used nail polish remover to clear the problem

Shirl. :D

No, it wasn't a bread bag (have done that before though)

Must have been when I ironed one of hubbys work shirts, it's polyester, with the iron toooo hot and it stuck :(

I tried vinegar but it didn't budge it.

Never thought of nail polish remover!

Oh well, thanks for all the tips anyway, no doubt they'll come in handy
