christmascracker
Silly me, I've got some marks on my irons' soleplate and I cant get them off. :( Obviously used it too hot and it's stuck on the bottom. Anyone know how I get it off? It's stainless steel by the way Thanks
-pops-
Heat the iron to its hottest and use it to iron an old piece of cotton or (preferably) linen cloth. Press down hard and move to a different piece of the cloth with each pass of the iron. The molten whatever it is should gradually be removed. DO NOT use any other type of cloth to do this. Cotton/polyester blends and suchlike are definite a no-no.Failing that you could very carefully heat the iron as above and remove the deposit with one of those modern steel wool pan scourers - the stainless steel type. Be careful if you do this though so as not to scratch the plate. :)
don't ask
I know I am a canny Scot and am supposed to have a certain reputation - but I buy a new iron - honestly ! I applaud pops' advice - that is what my mum taught me.
-pops-
If you are looking to get a new iron, get one with a Teflon coated sole plate. Not only are they non stick, even for molten textiles, I am told that they are much smoother and easier to use.
andsome
If it's stainless steel try the finest gauge of steel wool.
christmascracker
Well, tried the hot iron on cloth one but it wouldn't budge, so used steel wool which worked :) So thank you, you've saved me from having to buy a new one.Must learn not to have it too hot  Don't have much luck with irons, I've been through 3 in the past year!
