Also rename the copied .ini to .old just so as there is no boot confusion.Then open your original boot.ini file and delete the line which goes"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect"Then reboot your machine and see what happens.Good Luck. Can you look on your boot floppies, and see if the boot.ini file came from there. Check to see what the file on the floppies says.Thanks. Mr. M. The notepad file is labeled "bootiniold.txt". This should be safe enough.I'd like to put it on my D partition, but that doesn't exist any more. Is there a way to partition my drive without starting with the 4 frickin floppies?I think I created this problem when I loaded 2k on my D partition. The line I'm deleting has "partition (2)". It got written to the boot.ini file and never got deleted no matter how many times I reformatted. Agent Smith Posted April 9, 2004 Report Share Posted April 9, 2004 Well glad that the double Os problem is sorted.Couple of things. In order for you to create another partition without a reinstall, you will need a piece of software such as Powerquests Partition Magic (you can also do it from within Drive Image) or an equivalent.As for the boot ini, it should have been totally erased when you formatted the drive, so the double partition information must have come from somewhere else. I suspect that it is the floppies. It is possible that when you installed to the second partition, it changed the boot.ini on the floppy.Mr. M. Opto Posted April 11, 2004 Author Report Share Posted April 11, 2004 Just an update to let everyone know what happened.After I corrected the boot.ini file and did another clean install, the bad boot.ini file was over writted with a good file. I didn't have to peek/poke the 4 frickin floppies.I bought my laptop used from a private party and I asked the seller to supply me with copies of the OS, drivers, apps., etc. My w2k is a copy and that is why it won't boot on start up.Thanks to Mr. M. for the help.
