Tankus Posted April 22, 2004 Report Share Posted April 22, 2004 The Guardian Lord Spencer, the brother of Princess Diana, today said that he was "shocked and sickened" by the broadcasting of images of his dying sister on US television last night.Is it just bad taste on my part , but hasn't this guy made a steady and substantial income out of his sisters corpse himself ....?kettles and pots . andsome Posted April 23, 2004 Report Share Posted April 23, 2004 Personally I find this whole celebrity business tasteless in the extreme. She was an attention grabbing person when she was alive, it always amazed me how when she visited a hospital anonymously in the middle of the night, the press were always there. The simpering smile with lowered eyes was irritating. Had she been at home with the kids instead of gallivanting round Europe with a playboy the accident would not have happened. Having said all this, I agree that the media have continued to cash in on her, and peoples strange interest in so called celebrities. As stated by Tankus, her brother has also made the most of things. I know that this posting may possibly provoke aggressive responses, but this is just my view, I don't find any pleasure whatsoever in celebrity worship. I would not have wished the accident upon anyone, but if it had been Joe Bloggs from down the road, I doubt if anyone would have been remotely interested. Thia is what they crave for. Then some of them abuse it in every way possible and cry "Privacy" when the media divert their attention to the seedier side of what is going on.I liked Lady Diana very much but she was a master of this type of manipulation. :( David Beckham, whatever your opinion of him as a person has gained respect in my eyes in the way he kept quite about the "Locker-Room incident" and more recently the alleged affair with his PA. She went public in a massive way to make money and grab attention for herself. Throughout all this David has remained quiet and somehow managed to keep a smile on his face, even though his marriage and business empire was in danger of being affected.What really rattled me was the fact of his EX-PA being at the BAFTA awards the other evening, strutting and posing as though she was of real importance to the occasion. Had it not been for the story braking she wouldn't have been allowed near the Red carpet. Not even in the early hours of the day to help lay it. :angry:There are so many well deserving people that constantly go unrecognised, donate millions of pounds to charity with a absolute anonymous cheque, we are never any the wiser. Then there are others who will donate smaller amounts rather than give it to the tax-man but boy do they let us know about it.Phil Collins is a neighbour of my wifes brother, we have had dinner with them on more than one or two occasions but even my wife, myself or her brother and wife never heard the story from him until it broke in the press many years later.One night a young guy knocked on his door, [Early hours of the morning in fact]. Explained that even though he did not know Mr. Collins or Mr. Collins he. He lived close by and the bottom of his world was about to collapse, he was in imminent danger of losing his home/Marriage and children through a bad business deal and had no one else to turn to.Phil invited him in for a cup of tea, sat and listened to his story then said "How much do you need?" £20.000 was the reply.Take it, pay me back if and when you can, go home and try to have a good nights sleep and tell your wife and children not to worry.
