For many (most) people that I know the extras of the modern Microsoft product are just not necessary and are a cause of confusion rather than a help.I build machines for my son's business and the latest ones I've put together have had OpenOffice installed. They've met with all round approval and saved a notable amount of money as well.OpenOffice is an excellent product. However out of curiosity, does open office have a feature similar to Publisher? I make all my own greetings cards, and this is the most useful program of all for me. Sir Radfordin Posted April 27, 2004 Report Share Posted April 27, 2004 I'm one of those people that for as long as there is a Mircosoft version of something installed will default to it regardless of what else is there. IE does all I need so I haven't switched to another browser. I am expected to know how Office works and so haven't switched to OO. I recently installed OO for someone who didn't want to spend the required money for a new office licence. If I were forced to use OO I know I could but there is currently no reason to switch.When job adverts start saying "strong OpenOffice skills required" then you'll see me making a rapid switch, but until then it isn't worth the hassle. Have a look at their home page. :) The skills required to operate OO are very similar to those required for M$ Office so there won't be much training required in a switchover.
