I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 14.04 & Windows 8.1 just Yesterday. Now in Windows 8 There is a pecular problem. Whenever i interact with any object on the screen, the computer freezes, for about 30-40 secs. This happens almost all the time say 5-6 times in 10 minutes. The reason behind this was that DISK ACTIVE TIME which is shown by Task Manager spikes up to 100% & stays there for about a minute or so. For some mysterious reason, my PC (running Windows 7) has started scheduling a disk check every time a start up. This is obviously annoying as it takes time and is unnecessary. I have to watch out each time for the 'press any key' message to put a stop to it. On the advice of our friendly computer nerd, I've gone through the procedure: Right mouse click on C drive. Select Properties. Select Tools. Click on check now for error checking. Tick both boxes offered. Click OK. Reboot. I have a rather strange situation on my hands. You see, here at my new workplace, we have a certain industrial machine which requires several programs and drivers which, in turn, only run on Windows 95. In addition, the installation CDs for said programs and drivers have evidently been missing for the last ten years.
