Yesterday, I got my windows 8 BSoD on boot (reboot repeatedly) for "system thread exception not handled" so I can't do anything thus I installed ubuntu 12.04. still, I prefer windows for compatibilities sake... But now I want to replace the windows 8 with windows 7 64bit ultimate. So, how to remove the windows 8 from my laptop using ubuntu because I still can't access windows 8 directly(still BSoD) and install windows 7 then?

Hi I bought a new laptop 350gb HDD with Win8 64bit preinstalled (no disc came with it) however I needed win7 32bit for my job since the softwares used are only compatible with old win version. I managed to back up my win8 before I partitioned my HDD into 3 drives and installed win7 ultimate 32 bit on a different partition. I remember that my win8 was installed in Drive C (100GB) while I have 80+GB for Shared files on Drive E and the rest of the memory are for Drive D where I installed win 7 and I labeled each drives accordingly. At first everything was working fine on both O.S, it was giving me the dual boot option at start up but I forgot if I really have tested running both O.S. before I gave my laptop to my supervisor and asked him a favor to intall the softwares for work purposes. My supervisor then approached me and said that there might be some incompatibility issue with the updates I have on my win7 coz some applications don't install so he asked me if its ok if he reinstalls a new win7 so I said yes since Im confident that its will work fine and I have backed up my win8 anyway, in short, I left everything into his hands. Later, he then got back to me and told me every job related softwares now work except that my win8 now doesnt show and yes, dual boot option is not there anymore and it boots automatically to win7 like win8 is not there. I've read some forums how to check if your O.S are still there and it could just be a boot up issue and use of Easy BCD might help. I have attached images below for your reference. Now what I'm confused of is that my Win8 appears to be in Drive D and win7 could be in Drive C, which I'm thinking if they were exchanged when my sup reinstalled win7 or he may have overlapped my win8. Im pretty sure he knows which drive is for which O.S since I labeled them. Now Im afraid to use EasyBCD on the wrong drive and I cant approach my supervisor anymore to bother him again since he worked on my laptop for almost the whole day at work. I apologise for the long story but I'd really love to have my win8 back and please someone advise me on the following: - if both o.s. are still intact and recognized - why the Drive letters got mixed up and how to check which drive has which o.s coz it seems like both drives has a part of my work related applications (didn't put personal files yet on win 8 when I had both o.s installed) - is Drive D really is my win8 now? - does Easy BCD really work and wont complicate things further - how to use Easy BCD to get my win8 to boot up to or both of them to show at start up without corrupting my work related softwares installed in win7 THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR GENEROUS ADVISE AND ATTENTION TO MY ISSUE.

Hey guys, This is my first post ever so lets see how it goes. I have 3 year old Toshiba Satellite A505 - 6565, 8Gb ram, 500Gb HDD, Intel Centrino 2. I want to upgrade my Laptop with a 256gb SSD and install windows 8 on it and use this as my primary drive but also have the capability of booting from my old HDD using the ESATA port on my laptop coupled with an ext. enclosure drive. I bought the enclosure, set everything up, even set my BIOS to boot from ESATA but I did leave my primary bay empty since I have yet to buy a SSD. When I turn on my laptop on, it did not locate the external drive with the 500Gb and windows 7 already loaded on it but instead it started looking for my graphics card or something else not really sure. But it acted like it should when there is no HDD in the laptop. So my questions is: Is what I am trying to do even possible? Do I need to have a drive in the main bay at all times? If it is possible, could someone tell me how or post a link to someone who has done the same thing I am trying to accomplish? Thanks ahead of time guy and gals!

Hi all, My hardware is an ASUS P9X79 motherboard, with 2 SSD (an OCZ Vertex and an Intel) and 2 Raid volume controlled via an Adaptec Raid controller. I have installed 2 instances of win7 64 bit, first on the OCZ vertex drive followed by another installation on the Intel, using UEFI DVD. My window DVD is an Ultimate version, purchased before Service Pack 1. My problem is: 1. I can run the Win7 on the Vertex properly. When it boot, it also display a boot menu with 2 entries (i.e. Vertex and Intel); however 2. when I select the 'intel' boot entry, the screen turn black for a while, and then return to the boot menu again. I have displayed the BCD store using BCDEDIT as per the attached. Disk management also show that the 100MB EFI partition is also in place. Can anybody give me some hint on how can I solve this problem? Thanks a lot Tony

I had an unofficial Ms-Dos boot disk (FreeDos) and I was trying to dual boot it with Windows XP. I had made the partition with EaseUS and allocated 20gb. When I booted from the disk on startup, I followed the instructions, then turned my computer off. When I turned it back on there was nothing but a white error message in the3 top-left corner saying, "Error missing or corrupt operating system". So I deleted the the Ms-Dos partition, then used an official Windows XP Service Pack 2 disk and made a new partition and booted into that. I can view all my old files from the original partition except for the locked user files. Someone told me that it was because of the file "autoexec.bat" or something. Any help would be much appreciated.
