-pops- Posted May 10, 2004 Report Share Posted May 10, 2004 Can I ask why?Pulse dialling is the old system used on phones with mechanical dials on them (the ones you stick your finger in and move the dialer round). It belongs to the pre 1960's and the days of mechanical telephone exhanges with clicking relays and mechanical selectors. It is crude and very subject to false signal peaks and such like which, in the old systems, didn't matter very much but in modern electronic signalling will result in failure of almost anything you are trying to do.To answer your question - I doubt that any computer (or any other electronic device) can generate the pulses necessary to do this and, even if they could, it is doubtful that modern telephone exchanges would be able to cope with it. Yes, both systems may be in use but for how long?I am fascinated why you want to be able to do this and why you think a computer can do it.BTW :welcome: to the forum. Agent Smith Posted May 10, 2004 Report Share Posted May 10, 2004 Hello hraith, and welcome to the Froum.I'm not 100% sure it is the same, but in order to set a modem to switch dial types in Win2k, it is a setting your "local location" phone and modem options.Go into control panel, and then Phone and Modem Options. You should then be able to select the current "location" which has been set up, and if you click on edit, one of the choices is to change from tone to pulse.Hope this helps.Mr. Mouse. Therefore I need pulse dialing for getting connected during travel.My modem in my new laptop seems not to have this possibility. I have on my PC also the software from a German internet provider (T-Online), where its software allows to switch over between pulse and tone, but it does not work on my new PC.PC development seems to go too fast - not waiting for the world to follow.
