GENEVA--Millions of users may abandon the Internet and phone messaging systems unless governments and software companies join forces to block the spread of spam, key figures in an antispam drive said on Tuesday.

The global battle against spammers who use the Internet to disseminate pornography, distribute unsolicited sales pitches and engage in the new menace of "phishing" can be won in two years, officials running a three-day U.N. meeting told a news conference.

"If we don't work together," said Robert Shaw, Internet strategy expert with the United Nations' International Telecommunications Union (ITU), "we may see millions of people abandoning the Net entirely, out of frustration and disgust."

I agree with Andsome, changing your email address helps, I was getting over 150 Spams a Day, to my Main Email address, not normally changeable, as it is the ISP's Link to the Account, but when I got my ISP to make that one invisible, which they can, my Spam stopped,. Be Warned!! This takes some time to set up, once it happens noone can contact you on that Address!!!

Now I have an email Account set up with several free Providers, use them on new Sites I don't know!!

Working nicely!

If I get Spam, firstly, I block them, then, delete the account if they still come!

Best advice>>> DON'T CLICK<<< on a Site you don't know!

Best way to do it!!

BTW: If you are setting up a new Account with an ISP, get them to make your Primary Email Address invisible, and use the Secondary one as your Main one!

That way, if you get hit, you can simply change it!

Jmho!

 :D

I think it is at times like this that we should turn to our wonderful government, and get them to pass laws to stop us being pestered with spam. The only thing that has so far stopped me approaching St Tony directly is the fact that I know what he would do. He would make it illegal to own a computer, and a six day amnesty would be announced for all spammers to hand in their codes. Thereafter, anyone doing more than ten miles an hour, in a built up area, on a mobile 'phone would be incarcerated (without anaesthetic).
