Simple for someone, weird for me

Recommended Posts

I had my firewall key stored, in several locations, as a notepad file. I just went to retrieve it and it's changed from a Notepad file to an XBIN file. What's an XBIN file, how did it happen and, most importantly, how do I open one ? :blink:

Tried opening with notepad- gobbledegook.

Tried renaming to .txt and I get all my license details but not the key.

I'm guessing that my license details were encrypted into the key , which was a very, very long key, and something has tripped. There is no time limit on this programme, I've bought the pro version.

I actually had the same file stored on CD and I can't read that either. It's changed to .xbin.

The question needs answering 'cause it's so weird BUT I've got myself off the hook. I copied the entire folder from my programme files and pasted it directly into the programme files on another machine. I ran the .exe and it worked without asking for the key. Cool.

PS. It's not my firewall, as wrongly typed previously, it's RegSupreme.

I have a wonderful little prog. (Typea. com) that was on a mag. cover disc in the days of Win 3.1, or maybe before, that will print out all the ASCI characters in a compiled/coded file. It has got me out of trouble a few times, but it needs DOS. If someone will tell me how I can post it on the forum I will do so.

This will tell you about XBIN, although how this notepad file was changed is beyond me.

Not surprising really. I've been looking at the wrong bleedin' file. :blink: :rolleyes: :D

Someone close this thread before my miniscule reputation shrinks any smaller. :D

Edit;

Perhaps a poll would be in order.

Plonker

Weirdo

Numbnut

All of the above :D
