-pops- Posted July 11, 2004 Report Share Posted July 11, 2004 I use eprompter to censor my email and msgtag to track and report when an email has been opened. Earlier this afternoon eprompter reported it had three emails.One was from a Jack Hamilton telling me his address to send the money and two were msgtags saying that my two emails had been opened. I found out that the emails in question were to this Jack Hamilton. I deleted them as spam.After a time, I became a bit curious so I checked in my Sent Items folder and saw that, according to the file, I had sent two emails to this person. One asked for his address and the other saying I would send the money tomorrow.There are several points here:1. I have never heard of Jack Hamilton.2. I have never sent him an email. I most certainly haven't sent him one at 5.05 am or another at 12.05 pm.3. The email address and the postal address looked genuine, one being wanadoo the other in Dublin.4. The emails went from my "prime" email address - the one I have for business use and which is known to very few people.Anyone know what's going on? djohn Posted July 11, 2004 Report Share Posted July 11, 2004 Not sure on the answer to that -pops- but if you had not been alerted by eprompter of the mail supposedly sent by yourself then this is something that could very easily have been overlooked. -pops- Posted July 11, 2004 Author Report Share Posted July 11, 2004 I've just run a squared. I've also run Adaware, Spybot S&D, AVG 7. I have SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard and PrevX.Compared to my setup, Fort Knox is open plan. Everything comes out cleanNothing at all odd has happened since and everything is running OK.I'll keep you posted if anything else strange happens - like Jack Hamilton asking where his money is :D I don't want to investigate too deeply in case something gets cocked up but, of course I'd want to do that if something untoward happened.Thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No more strange emails except the usual types caught in the BT spam trap.I think I'll have to put it down to yet another "one of those strange things".Thanks for your help. Regretting that now as I'm curious about what is going on. From what I remember about the emails, he is expecting some money to be paid so it may be that he will contact about the whereabouts of this. You see, the email with his address was held on the server by eprompter and I deleted it there.There isn't anything valuable on this machine so I'm not concerned from that angle so I'll just have to wait and see.
