LONDON (Reuters) - Barclays bank is closing accounts held by the far-right British National Party after the BBC filmed party members confessing to assaults on Muslims, a source familiar with the matter has said.

Barclays will shut about five accounts linked to the BNP, not all of which are registered in the party's name, the source told Reuters on Friday.

Britain's third-biggest bank was already reviewing its position on the BNP before the BBC's film, the source said.

"The bank had been looking at the situation for some time, but the BBC documentary last night provided evidence enabling the bank to act," the source said.

A Barclays spokeswoman declined to comment.

If memory serves correctly Barclay's don't exactly have a great track record when it comes to those they have given accounts to.

Or Loans.

My previous job was with a Debt recovery agency ( I worked on the phone :whistling: ) and they give some pretty big loans to some pretty old folks ... some on pension would hardly have been able to pay back a quarter of it. Just plain dumb.

I do agree though... Minorities take the mickey over here. All this political correctness bullsh.t has got to stop. I didn't come to the UK and expect to bend the rules to suit me.. I accepted that i'm in someone elses country and I have made allowances in my behaviour etc to accommodate the natives. I don't expect special threatment... and it pisses me off that i'm paying taxes that's used by the government to fund lavish lifestyles for assylum seekers and criminals... and I don't get any benefits. I pay full cost for my courses ( thousands of pounds yearly) and i'm still kicked in the gonads by the tax man when I work extra in the breaks.

The PC brigade are the very ones who I believe cause more racial resentment than anyone, they seem to see racist remarks in anything that mentions black (baa baa black sheep as a stupid example) and think that schools etc. should not celebrate Christmas in case it offends minority religions just to name a couple.

Also if a crime happens to someone from a minority the pc brigade, loony left, communists etc. are out screaming about it being racist, holding demonstration and the like, even if the evidence says otherwise, a example being, in the Sighthill area of Glasgow a few years back a asylum seeker was murdered, the Police stated they did not think it was racist but they were still investigating, but the PC mob didn't listen to this, two days later there was a dermonstration and march through Glasgow City Centre to George's Square so they could spout of and feel how important they were, a couple of days later the Police caught the assailiant, yes he was white, but it had nothing to do with race, the guy was a known violent mugger and that was what it was all about, a mugging that went wrong

Now take the recent case where a young white boy in the South side of Glasgow was dragged into a car and beaten to death by Asian men, the race issue was played down, no big demos or marches for him, the PC brigade etc. were nowhere to be found, even the media were actively playing the race issue down, it was as if everybody was scared to say it was a racist killing in case they themselves were called a racist.

A lot of the things that the PC mob etc. come away with are just small things, but added together with the larger issues they make the white indiginant people of Britain think that their way of life is under attack and maybe the BNP have a point in some of their issues and that's the chink that the extremists like the BNP will work on, which in turn will lead to more racial tensions.

Whilst I would tend to agree that we have become too PC, a country that consideres calling a blackboard is racist because they were superseeded by whiteboards is just daft. The blackboard was such before someone had invented the whiteboard so was never a 'racist' term.

However, the comments that were made in the BBC documentary by some invididuals can only be taken as racist (wanting to kill one people group for example). Two wrongs don't make a right, so in my view each view should be taken as said and not compared or contrasted to other views. The comments made in that documentary were in their own right racist and made by people who I would consider had dangerous intentions. Regardless of what other people groups say/do the issues should be addressed in their own right.

Agreed andsome.. two excellent post.

One thing that got me hopping mad and wanting to find some Hindu and throw some beef on them the other day had to do with a Christian cemetery. Some Hindus must have complained that the cross on one the tombs/graves offended them and wanted it removed or covered... the :censored: at the counsel had the cross covered over!! :o If that was me i'd tell them to go :censored: themselves and remove the :censored: Saris that they wear because it offends me!

On the evidence, I can't see that the police have any option but to prosecute. However, freezing 'BNP related' accounts and prosecuting its high-profile members will only swell its ranks by way of more publicity. Left alone, UKIP would have eaten them whole. The beeb have boobed.

I fail to see how a "relgious" symbol or cultural dress used in the right context can be offensive. There is no need for such items to impose on anyone or prevent anyone doing what they want. Surely it is more offensive when such "religous" symbols are worn by those who do not identify with the "religion" they are taken from?

That's my point Sir Rad.

Besides England was/is a Christian country as far as i'm aware and I hope to God that that's not something these dumb asses at the counsel are forgetting. Someone with some common sense has to come to the fore and stand up to these twips (not the BNP).

All this lot sums up my reason for not wanting anything to do with ANY religion. There is too much intolerance and bigotry involved. I believe that it is perfectly possible to practise your own beliefs, with your own family and friends, in your own home, and leave other people to get on with their own beliefs. If Muslim women want to cover themselves in black from head to toe, so be it, it doesn't bother me, but how dare they be offended by my beliefs. The worse people are those who bend over backward NOT to offend minority groups, by supporting their bigotries, such as the councils mentioned.

This subject is generating much more comment than the other big news story of the same day - the Butler report.

Could it be that after the previous showdown with the BBC on Iraq it is now a puppet, and completely under the control, of the government and it was deliberately programmed to be coincident with the publication of Butler, thus guiding interest and attention away from yet another of the current wave of almighty cockups by this completely inadequate and totally incompetent shower of pseudo-politicians.

Cynical?

Moi?

Rien!

:(

I don't really think so -pops- . I think after the Hutton whitewash this Butt'ler creamwash was expected so there is really nothing new to talk about. B'liar comes out looking fresh and clean... the bad intel picked up the blame and a bunch of BS to add content.

I am not to sure whether this ia a good thing, I know banks have to look at their image and reserve the right to withdraw accounts from anyone at any time, but if no bank is willing to have a account with the BNP or any other political party then I believe the law will have to change, would I not be right in thinking, that in the UK you can't have a political party unless that party has a bank account, this means that banks could effectively put any political party out of business if they so wished, as much as I don't agree with the BNP and some other extremist parties actually existing I do respect their right to exist and be a political party, after all we are a democracy with all the advantages and disadvantges that go with it.
