A friend at work has this problem.

He can download his e-mails but when he clicks on them they will not open in OE.

From what I can gather he is using XP Home.

Also he says the provider of his e-mails is paradise.net, although his e-mail & internet is provided by ntlworld.com can anyone make any sense of this.

can he read them in the profile pane, or will they open with right click and select open from the menu,

the reason i ask is i am with ntl and no amount of left clicking on an email will open it. i believe it is a setting I've altered, but i haven't really looked.

I am with NTL and my mail always opens with a double left click, or a single right click followed by selecting open. I would not think that this is a problem with NTL, but something with the computer. Can he open the mail on NTL Worlds website? The facility is on the right hand side of the screen if he scrolls down.

Hi trackrat, reading into the images you posted, it would appear that he has simply not set the email server correctly.

As you can see from the first image, he has his outgoing server set to smtp.ntlworld.com, but his incoming server seems to be set to simply "pop3". I am pretty sure this should be set to "pop.ntlworld.com"

Try this and see if it cures his problem. Obviously it will only help if he has got his user name and password correct for his NTL account as well. As for the paradise.net email, either he has got himself confused, or he has an account with them, which will also need to be configured correctly.

Thanks for all your replies, I will not see him till monday, I have allready told him to put pop3.ntlworld in the appropiate box.

So I will see if it worked on monday, if not I will be back so I will leave this thread open.

Once again thanks.

Thanks to all of you who posted pop.ntlworld.com.

My friend at work is a happy bunny now.

When I saw him on monday he said it did not work so I told him I made an error and to take the 3 out after pop and bingo loads of E-Mails, then he comes in tuesday and says he can`t open any attachments so I wrote down for him oe,tools options, security etc so hopefully tomorrow he will be an even happier bunny.

trackrat, I also have to disagree with Andsome. I do not think there can ever be any wasted time when you are trying to help somebody.

We have a great poster on our office wall, which reads "Never look down on anybody, unless you are about to help them up!"

Mr. M.

I thought that despite all our postings on the subject, Trackrat had given wrong advice to his friend, that is why I said that we had wasted our time. Trackrat did acknowledge in his next posting that he had not seen the advice until after he returned home. So there is NO problem. It is nice that things turned out OK in the end.
