catgate
Problem solved. I have just found out that Jack Hamilton is a great, great, grandson, twice removed(*), of a noted early Yorkshire scientist called Bert Farquaharson (**) (1795 - 1863) He, Bert Farquaharson, was a self taught expert in Augustinian Floral Tonsils. Much of his knowledge and skill in this area passed away with him, and many are unaware of his competence in this field. He is more remembered, however, for his invention of some of today's lower temperatures, although, when he invented them, no one had a use for them. Nevertheless, today they are in great demand for use with each new washing powder/liquid that is brought onto the market. It would be a mistake to assume that he invented all of today's lower temperatures. It had always been assumed that he invented a short range between 37 and 46 degrees (with 41 and 42 missing) and another shorter range from 49 to 54 degrees (with 51 missing ). Recently, however, Dr. Quentin P. Gently, of Rutgers University, who is researching the work of an Siberian Franciscan monk called Brother Ytzkolt Owzyt (1827 - 1900), found 41, 42, 47, and 51 in a small, hand chaste, pewter box at the back of an old disused chimney in the corner of Farquaharson's old workshop in Lumbly Street, Castleford. This would seem to leave us with the question , "What about 48?". Brother Ytzkolt himself claimed to have invented 41, 42, 47, 48 and 51, along with another range, 55 to 60 degrees. It now looks as though his claim may have to be reviewed in the light of the current findings. Mavis Pilsly, who lived next door to the old workshop in Lumbly St., said she heard Dr. Gently say that the old monk of Siberia, whose habits were rather inferior, once did to a nun what he shouldn't have done, and now she's a mother superior. It could be asked, and probably will be asked, what Farquaharson was doing to invent these temperatures in the first place. The answer is a little odd when one considers that he was a Yorkshireman through and through. He was, in fact, doing some work on an ancient alpine coracle, with a new tin of renovating porridge, which seemed reluctant to spline. Hence, he set about a programme of work to cure this problem. He eventually found that it would spline at one of his new temperatures. It is claimed that Jack was working on a bike with small wheels, and in which the rear of the front wheel almost touched the front of the rear one. This was to be a short cycle to go with his ancestors contribution.(*) He used to live in Wigan, then moved to Rhyl and is now in Jiblitz in Turkey(**) Pronounced Chalmondley

-pops-
It was me who brought up the thing about Jack Hamilton a couple of weeks ago. There were some strange goings on with my emails and I asked advice here. It was a serious enquiry. What this thread has to do with that, I have no idea. There were some strange goings on with my emails and I asked advice here. It was a serious enquiry. What this thread has to do with that, I have no idea. No, you will have no idea. Under the circumstances you could not have, could you. This is here because it is about a Jack Hamilton. It did occur to me that it was just possible that the Jack Hamilton dealt with in this item may not be the one that was being sought earlier. Under those circumstances it seemed inappropriate to add this to the earlier enquiry. However, since the possibilty, though fairly slight, could still exist, that they are one and the same person, it seemed that it was unreasonable not bring him to the attention of anyone who just might be interested.Additionally, it seemed to prove, to me, that even though going to bed, to mend ones head, with vinegar and brown paper was never very successfull, you can just never tell. AlanHo
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????andsomeYou seem to be suffering from the dreaded question mark finger sticking syndrome. This condition, often unrecognised by sufferers, manifests itself by them typing text which consists only of a row of question marks - as many as 76 have been recorded by the worst sufferers.I have little doubt that catgate will have a distant relative who has either copyrighted the use of continuous question marks or who has a cure for the syndrome.Have you considered joining a support group ?
