When I try to load a video file (no matter what it is), I have to wait for up to about 3 minutes for it to start playing. The player itself loads okay. I have to wait if I click on a video file in explorer as well, as it will load on the left hand pane. It does the same with 7.1 as well (if I uninstall 9). Once the video file has started playing, I can play other files straight away until I restart Windows.Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? andy29 Posted October 1, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 1, 2004 I have a 1000GHz AMD Duron, 256MB of RAM, and a 160GB HD. Each partition has at least 2GB free. C: has 5GB free. Win2K has service pack 2 installed.I have scanned my system for viruses and spyware, ran chkdsk, defragmented the disk and cleaned the registry and nothing works. It's not like it's not worked before, and I haven't installed anything other than I have done before (before I last reinstalled Windows). I really can't see what's wrong. In order, their free space is:7.54 GB5.17 GB #4.17 GB3.16 GB +2.28 GB *413 MB *212 MB *# This is C:.+ I have recently temporarily created a ghost of C: on this partition, but AFTER the problems began with WMP. It usually has more than 10 GB free.* These two are CD sized and just used for storage. They don't have any programs installed on them. While the player is not doing anything and says 'connecting', if I click the stop button, the windows freezes and I can't click any of the other buttons. And it won't die if I try to kill it.
