trackrat Posted October 12, 2004 Report Share Posted October 12, 2004 I tried acronis image and it has altered my boot ini file.I know I can edit the ini file in notepade but I cannot remember how to do it.Can anyone help.Things have got worse I just checked the ini file and it seems to have deleted the origonal xp boot line and left the acronis one. christmascracker Posted October 12, 2004 Report Share Posted October 12, 2004 Before you do.........have you activated the start up recovery manager/secure zone in Acronis?If you have then I presume it needs to be there if ever you need to use it. ie press F11 before windows starts to recover in case of disasterJust re-read you post............are you not using Acronis now? trackrat Posted October 12, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 12, 2004 CC last night when I switched the computer on it said cannot find acronis MBR,press the enter button to search for the MBR.When I pressed enter it booted into windows as normal.so this morning I had a look at the boot ini file and it had an extra line in it to do with partition 2 and the origonal entry tofrom partition 1, now I have checked it again partition 1 has vanished and it comes up the same on start up that it wants to boot fromacronis and to press enter to search for the MBR.When you press enter it boots into XP as Normal.Do you think fix.mbr would do the trick and restore the MBR to what it was. christmascracker Posted October 12, 2004 Report Share Posted October 12, 2004 If you haven't done so already try activating the secure zone/start up manager and then deactivating it.I don't use it for the exact same reason. I activated it on my second drive but then I had to replace the drive as it packed up. On installing the new one I couldn't get past the start up screen as Acronis was looking for something that wasn't there.So I activated it then deleted it again.Might sort it out :unsure:This is all supposing that you activated it in the first place!
