Matt M
I have had to reinstall XP due to a problem caused by some bad avice from Dell.Installation went fine, but now I can't seem to reload any of my other software/hardware. I can't change the screen resolution and the printer/scanner are not being recogonised. I take it I probably need to reinstall the drivers, but the Dell handbook doesn't tell you how to do this (great!!!!!!!!!!). Can anybody point me in the right direction. Thanks
andsome
You should have CD's for your drivers. They will auto run, and you click on install
Matt M
Tried that nothing will auto run. Toying with reformatting the hard disk and starting again?
-pops-
I assume this is related to your previous thread.Did you contact Dell and tell them what you thought of them?I think it would be wise now to do a new install of your operating system. Windows XP will reformat and install afresh if you give it the right instructions at the start. Ensure the BIOS is set to boot from CD, insert the XP CD and shutdown. On rebooting, the BIOS should see the XP CD and begin the installation procedure. Forgive me if I'm telling you things you already know but some people attempt to re-install Windows with the system already running. This does not necessarily give a clean install.Of course, things may be different if you have a Dell recovery disc rather than a "real" copy of your O/S. If this is the case then, naturally, you must follow the procedure given by Dell (but, on their current record with you, that doesn't look promising :( )You will have to install the drivers and everything afresh when you have your re-install operating correctly. Ensure that the basic Windows things work before going to a lot of trouble installing additional software.

andsome
Sorry that this comment is not at all helpful in your present predicament. To me this whole episode confirms what I have always said. If you cannot build a computer yourself, find a reliable local man/woman and have one built to a spec agreed between you. No expensive help lines to pay for. Just pop into the shop and get immediate attention.
nellie2
You should find that windows will find a lot of the drivers you need. But have your graphics card CD and Printer software CD handy and then you can load then and then take it from there. We will be here to help if you have any problems and we don't charge! ;)

Cpt James T. Kirk
yea, i have had dealings with dell too. my other puter was a dell dimension 8250. after numerous component failures they swapped me out with a rebuilt 8300. remember at the time i got this these puters were as big as they had. but it too had failures and finally the mb fried. i went and had a new one built locally, like i reccommend , used several useable parts from the old dell. post edited by Djohn. homecomputeraid
Be sure you start with ChipSet Drivers. Without those working, you'll have many problems. ChipSet first, everything else after those. What model Dell do you have? I may be able to direct you to a link with the ChipSet drivers.Sincerely,
