Defrag of XP Drive

Hi Guys,

Using XP Pro and its own defrager on an 80 Gb Maxtor drive. Since buying the drive/s last year I have never had a problem with defrag until this past week. Now I seem to have a section over to the far left of the illustration that is staying "Red" [Fragmented]. I've run the application several times over the past few days, both in normal mode and with AVG turned off. Also tried it in safe mode but still the same.

Any Ideas as to why it wont sort itself? Illustration below. :uhm:

After defragging is complete, check the report on the pop-up window.  It will tell you what was not defragmented, and you may have a guess why.

Make sure all applications are stopped before starting to defrag.

You don't need to stop anything with the paid for version of Diskeeper. It can be set to monitor continuously, and defrag as and when needed. I notice VERY LITTLE slow down when the defrag engine is active.

So it was! Just goes to show how we associate avatars with people and don't always look at the names.

My apologies to pwillener. Does the readout mean anything to you expertec?

I've thought hard about this and feel almost certain that the red band never stayed on show after defraging in the past. Always used XP's own defrager and it takes only a few minutes to do its job. Just a bit concerned that there may be something wrong with that part of the drive even though the readout appears to give the all clear.

Checkdisk came out fine expertec. Thanks for the suggestion though. I think I'll leave it for now though as everything is working fine as it always has. Just intrigued as to why this section of red has now appeared on the graph and seems to be unmovable. :(
