Default Mail Client

Recommended Posts

I use Outlook 2003 as my email client. When I click on a mailto link (IE or FF), an OE new message window opens. That despite my setting IE Tools -> Options -> Programs -> Mail to Microsoft Office Outlook.

Found that the registry entry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command holds the info what to open. It did contain a link to msimn.exe, which I believe is OE. Changed this to "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE", but now clicking a mailto link will open a new instance of OL.

What exactly should be in there? Thanks!

Mine reads:

"C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" -c IPM.Note /m "%1"

I have MS Office 2003 and obviously my main drive is C. I don't know if this helps you at all, but just in case it does (for IE default mail opens as outlook)

And mine reads

"C :\PROGRA~1\MICROS~4\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" -c IPM.Note /m "%1"

Thanks for all the replies!

"C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" -c IPM.Note /m "%1"

Yep, that fixed it. Used the DIR /X DOS command to confirm that MICROS~2 is my Microsoft Office folder.

Help, Detect and Repair.

When I click Start -> Help, nothing happens. It seems that some repair is indeed in order.

But I just figured out that you meant Outlook Help; it is running now while I'm going out for lunch. :)
