Adding an item to the Taskbar?

Click on the Start Menu to open it

Click on "Programs" and find the program for which you want to create an icon

Move your mouse pointer to the program you want to use

Depress and hold down the right mouse button while you drag the icon to the Quick Launch toolbar section of the Task Bar

When you release the right mouse button, a short menu will appear

Choose "Create Shortcut(s) Here." An icon will be created in the Quick Launch toolbar on the Taskbar.

Is that what you wanted ?

Method 1:

Go to Start > Run > msconfig

A window will appear, click the Startup tab and select what you want

Method 2:

Go to Start > Find your "Startup" folder

Place the shortcuts to any applications that you want to run in there.

I will go ahead and advise you have the minimal amount of things going at startup. For one, you will find that you do not use alot of it, and simply placing them in the Quick Launch toolbar is much easier. Memory management is a major concern for me so that is why I say this.

To use the Quick Launch, right click any blank space on the start bar, and go to Toolbars > Quick Launch Click it so that it is checked. Now you can put any shortcuts to apps you want and they will remain on the start bar for you to have easy access to them.

I have looked at the items starting in msconfig, and most of them could be in Chinese as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't have a clue what to leave and what to stop. When I did try stopping a couple of items, I got all sorts of warnings about the computer possibly blowing up.

LOL - not quite - if you run WinXP you should be able to safely uncheck everything in there without too many adverse effects. My reccomendation though:

uncheck one thing - reboot

no errors? great, continue with the next

uncheck

reboot

uncheck

reboot

Continue as neccessary

if you do get errors on startup because of something you unchecked, boot into safe mode, and replace the checkmark on that specific item
