scuzzman
While I think a forum chatroom is a very good idea, there are pricing measure to worry about. I believe the figure was in the $100/month range, which is definitely up there. I believe I may have a solution to our problem (or at least a part of it) that wouldn't cost the site admin a dime, and I could provide the one resource neccessary. How many of us are familiar with IRC? I have a Linux box that very rarely, if ever, gets rebooted, and is thus always online. I have no problem placing my EnergyMech bot in a chatroom (preferably IRCnet) so our members have a place to "hang out" and chat. For those of you who don't know how to use IRC, it's very simple, and there are tutorials all over the internet. One doesn't even need to download the client, as there is a very good webchat facility here. Simply replace the "Nickname" field with a nickname you wish to use (preferably your WF screenname, max 9 characters, letters, numbers, and _ { } [ ] - ), and replace the "Channel" field with #WindowsForum(be sure to include the # sign)There will be a few details needing to be worked out, but we can discuss those after we see if anyone is interested. What do you all think? scuzzman
I am more than willing to teach anybody to use IRC. And, after I get my windows box back online (need a new NIC, but with christmas and all, well you know), will create an mIRC tutorial complete with screenshots and all. scuzzman
Chatroom Downtime:For any that noticed it, although I think it may be relatively few, the chatroom has been down a few days this week. For that, I apologize. I was tweaking on my Linux box and consequentally, fubarred the whole thing, resulting in a neccessary recompile of the kernel. It's sorted now though, and the chatroom is back open, with ^Artemis^ protecting.
