monitor ghost

85 Hz is fine. I don't think that this would cause the problem though. It may be the focus is slightly out of line and if it is, phone for a swap-out of your monitor. Before that, have you tried altering the brightness of the screen by lowering it a little or the contrast even?

There are quite a few on-line calibration test you can use to adjust the contrast/brightness and colour temp of the monitor, have you tried one of these to set-up your display?

I have a friend who does a lot of graphic intensive work for a living and he has his own photo/electric calibration meter [Quite expensive] and when I first bought my TFT monitor he popped round and set it up for me by taking readings of the reflections from the screen.
