scuzzman Posted December 26, 2004 Report Share Posted December 26, 2004 Yes, .tar is a file format, typically on Linux/UNIX/*BSD, of archiving data. It stands for Tape ARchive.There is no compression done on the data, so it's beyond me why someone would tar a movie and not zip/ace/rar it where the actually is compression done.Now, as for unarchiving the data, there is a multitude of utilities. 1) 7-Zip, as mentioned by Boris 2) WinAce 3) (I think Winzip will do tars now) Are just a few... alex_150456 Posted December 26, 2004 Author Report Share Posted December 26, 2004 i can read the .tar file with winzip but that isnt my problem...the movie file comes up as 54 different files each with a similar name (avp-done.r20 or avp-done.r21). how do i view r20 files on windows media player, if this is not possible, then is there a way to convert these files to a simple .avi file??? Boris Posted December 26, 2004 Report Share Posted December 26, 2004 By the file names you give, I surmise that these files are parts of a ripped copy of Alien V Predator ??The original file has been split into a number of parts with a file splitting utility.
