nellie2 Posted January 2, 2005 Report Share Posted January 2, 2005 Here is the first daft question of 2005!!I have spent most of today setting up a new desk.... this means I now have loads of space and can set up the second monitor that I have had sitting in the cupboard for ages.Trouble is, I'm not sure how to do it! :( I have a Asus A7N266-VM mobo with a VGA monitor output connector on it, but my main monitor is plugged into my GForce MX440 graphics card. I tried plugging the second monitor into the mobo but nothing happened! :( The manual for the mobo is little more than useless and nothing in the bios jumps out at me as needing changing. Can I do the twin monitor thing with this set up or shall I just put the spare monitor back in the cupboard? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

nellie2 Posted January 2, 2005 Author Report Share Posted January 2, 2005 Twin monitors would be useful, especially when I'm going my troubleshooting bit as I usually have more than one document open and it can be a bit of a pain switching between the two... or resizing them so they both fit on one monitor and then scrolling all about the place. Chris Posted January 2, 2005 Report Share Posted January 2, 2005 You can either have a G-card with two outputs VGA/VGA | DVI/VGA | DVI/DVI with prices to match. OR you can use 2 [even more] graphics cards.That motherboard, probably got that MX440 in the AGP? You can get a cheap PCI graphics card and utilise the PCI slots. Now PCI graphics will be cheap as chips [if you can find them] and as your not running anything graphic intensive it'll be ok.Each screen can be independant of the other.Now what your wanting to do is use the onboard graphics? In the BIOS there should be a disable and enable option? Try enabling it... Also you'll probably best updated your graphics drivers to the lastest. I've got a feeling you won't be able to run what you want but with a small amout you'll be up and running.Now i'm on ATI drivers here but in the Nvidia options you have to extend your desktop so remember to do that....My liking would be two identical TFT's but space and price stop me doing it :( Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

don't ask Posted January 4, 2005 Report Share Posted January 4, 2005 I have two old P2 machines that have Creative TNT2 graphics cards and can set up two monitors on either of them. Loved being able to do it - found it really useful when hubby wanted to do on-line flying - both of us used to do on-line Air Traffic Controlling and other things. Thing was we fought over who was going to have the spare monitor.That old model of graphics card came with the 2 monitor function built in.
