Spader Posted January 5, 2005 Report Share Posted January 5, 2005 I've recently upgraded the processor, motherboard and chassi of my computer. The installation of the hardware went relatively smoothly and when the power is turned on, the system correctly recognizes the CD-ROM, the CD-RW, the hdds and so on. However, when I try to install Windows XP, the computer gets caught in an endless loop of copying files needed for the installation and then rebooting. The setup claims that the reboot is part of the installation process and that the installation will continue afterwards, but instead it tries to start the installation from the beginning all over again. What could be wrong? :) Have tried the following: - The BIOS has been flashed and upgraded to the latest version.- I've tried changing the boot device priority in the BIOS - it does not work, regardless of whether I choose the CD-ROM or an hdd as boot device. Kirk Posted January 5, 2005 Report Share Posted January 5, 2005 are you hitting any key to reboot when it says to. your not supposed to. if you do it will reboot to trying to reload the files over again. just let it reboot on its own. Usually, there would be a message like "Press any key to book from CD" when a Windows XP cd is in the cd-rom, but I never got that message. Only way to "unlock" the CD-ROM (and the CD-RW, have tried with both) is by turning off the power and turning it back on again. Not even a simple reset helps.
