Bush named most powerful man in Britain

LONDON (AP) — The most powerful man in Britain is American President Bush, while soccer star David Beckham's sway over British society is in free fall, a men's magazine said Wednesday.

Bush tied with Prime Minister Tony Blair for first place in the list drawn up by the British edition of GQ magazine.

Blair has long faced criticism that he simply follows Bush's orders as his "poodle," but GQ claimed that re-election has given Bush an even bigger say in British life. Last year, the U.S. president didn't make the top 100.

Really?  How do you then explain previous votes for Beckham?  Is he a powerful person or just loved? :P

Loved by all the Sharons & Traceys that read their essex boys magazines, to them Posh & Becks are royalty. :D :D :D

Beckham is an over payed scruffy looking git

You've just described politicians in general.

He isn't a politician. He is a grossly overpaid soccer player, with a talent for looking extremely scruffy. You may have heard of his wife. She was employed for several years to jump up and down in front of a microphone, and make funny irritating noises, in the company of a troupe of similar females, this noise was considered by the under ten year olds to be singing. They called themselves spice girls.

My apologies - though Beckham was a politician (that's what I gathered from the description at least :D )... and yes, I've heard of the Spice Girls... can't think of a more time and energy wasting thing than modern American pop-culture...
