abarbu Posted January 17, 2005 Report Share Posted January 17, 2005 I recently bought a Sony DW-D22A DVD-RW Drive. Because I did not have any connectors free, I unplugged my CD-ROM and connected my new DVD-RW. It worked quite fine. After 4 days I had to reinstall windows XP SP2 (the same as before) but with the DVD instead of the CD. Windows puts it in DMA mode 3 and when I want to write something.... it hangs. If I change the transfer mode to PIO, it is ok but the speed is somenthing like 2x or less. I changed the IDE cable, I put the DVD alone on the IDE cablle. but nothig helped. Any ideeas ? thank you ! -pops- Posted January 17, 2005 Report Share Posted January 17, 2005 I don't understand why you unplugged your DVD writer and replaced it with your DC ROM to re-install SP2.DVD writers will happily read and write CDs so your CD ROM isn't needed now.Try putting your DVD writer bsck, delete the drivers and let Windows find and re-install for you. The strange thing is that it worked on my old windows. but after the install... it didn't. so I don't think is a hardware problem. what can I do ?
