Windows 95 on floppy

Recommended Posts

So I have and ooooooooold laptop, and I want windows on it. I've found windows95 on floppy disk. During setup, when asked for disk 2, I insert the disk and press enter. It just asks me again and gives me the same options.

I've taken the disk out and looked at it on a working computer. jpeg attached.

Where can I obtain another disk 2, as this one has obviously been corrupted?

I've got Windows 3.11 for Workgroups on floppy, also I have the predecessor to Windows (Trsdos 6) on 5.1/4". I don't why I am keeping them.

I even have a portable Tandy machine with 32K of memory and two disk drives!

Well you never know do you?

Regards

Juby

Problem... Windows 95 Floppy disk install is on DMF (distribution media format) disks, and probably requires special formatting.

P.S. Contents of file1.cab and file2.cab appear to be intact.

I've PM'd you about DMF :)

I still have got Windows 3.11 for Workgroups on floppy

:( I have full sets of :-

Windows 3.0

Windows 3.1

Windows for Workgroups 3.1

Windows for Workgroups 3.11

- all on floppy - if anyone ever needs a disk :)

If you ever want to copy or create an MDF floppy - you can use a little old shareware app called DiskCopy Fast (88k .zip) ! PM me if you want a copy ?

As a little tip for anyone who is wanting to do any old Windows installs on floppy, there is a seller on Ebay that sells CD's fairly cheap that come with the capability of creating new sets of Windows 95 install CDs. The disks he sells also come with a modern freeware set of office tools, as well as one of the newer free versions of DOS and Windows 3.11 if you want to make floppies of those as well.

Just do a search for Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 on ebay, his sales are fairly common on there and he has good feedback.

My suggestion was for anyone who doesn't happen to have a copy of Win95 of CD to make use of. I wasn't trying to promote anything commercial or any other some such similar nonsense. The seller I mentioned also provides a valid license key to go with the CD that you get so you aren't violating any M$ licensing by making or setting up a copy from something downloaded from Bittorent.
