Scarecrow Man
So I have and ooooooooold laptop, and I want windows on it. I've found windows95 on floppy disk. During setup, when asked for disk 2, I insert the disk and press enter. It just asks me again and gives me the same options.I've taken the disk out and looked at it on a working computer. jpeg attached.Where can I obtain another disk 2, as this one has obviously been corrupted?

Using BadCopy Pro I was able to recover file1.cab and file2.cabDoes anyone have the layout of disk 2 for windows 95 floppy install that can tell me what files are supposed to be there? andsome
Try your local small shop, they may have something tucked away in a draw somewhere.
Scarecrow Man
Good idea Andsome, it was a bit of a fluke that I found this set. I'm pretty sure windows 95 on floppies is about as rare as a polar bear in Jamacia!
expertec
Scarecrow Man, can you post (a list of) the contents of disks 1 and 3 as well. :)
Scarecrow Man
Sure. There is a boot disk, which is just a windows 95 boot disk, disk 1 which is the setup wizard, and the actual install starts with disk 2.Disk 1Disk3Hmm... Now your on the right track...Disk4
expertec
Is file1.cab and file2.cab what they were called when you recovered them?Rename them Win95_01.cab and Win95_02.cab, stick them on a floppy and that should be your disk 2 B) Try it anyways
Scarecrow Man
Problem... Windows 95 Floppy disk install is on DMF (distribution media format) disks, and probably requires special formatting. P.S. Contents of file1.cab and file2.cab appear to be intact. syntax01010
As a little tip for anyone who is wanting to do any old Windows installs on floppy, there is a seller on Ebay that sells CD's fairly cheap that come with the capability of creating new sets of Windows 95 install CDs. The disks he sells also come with a modern freeware set of office tools, as well as one of the newer free versions of DOS and Windows 3.11 if you want to make floppies of those as well.Just do a search for Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 on ebay, his sales are fairly common on there and he has good feedback. syntax01010
My suggestion was for anyone who doesn't happen to have a copy of Win95 of CD to make use of. I wasn't trying to promote anything commercial or any other some such similar nonsense. The seller I mentioned also provides a valid license key to go with the CD that you get so you aren't violating any M$ licensing by making or setting up a copy from something downloaded from Bittorent.
