I can not get rid of Napster

Napster (the music service) was installed by the manufacturer on my PC. I want to get rid of it because I do not use it, nor do I intend to do so. However, every time I go to uninstall the program it just doesn't. I have tried the Add/Remove in Windows, as well as the add/remove in CCleaner.

Every time I go to uninstall it, basically it goes through the process, and then tells me that in order to uninstall the mobile device drivers (of which I have none) I have to reset the system.

If I tell it that I will reset later, a window appears that tells me that in order for Napster device manager to INSTALL, I must reset.

Quite frankly I have no idea what it is doing, but it refuses to uninstall. I need help if anybody knows how to get rid of it!

Thanks.

I can't help with the problem, but this case just reinforces my argument for having computers built by a local company, and having exactly what you want on it and NO so called free extra programs. I do hope that someone will be able to help. Can you not delete the folders from Windows Explorer, do a search on START/SEARCH and delete everything that comes up. Then back up the registry and delete the keys in there? I am sure that someone will guide you through the process.

That would be my thought. Followed by a scan of RegScrubXP.

I should have mentioned the scan.

That is truly a great piece of software.

This would be my method, but let someone else confirm before you do anything.

First create a restore point

Open Windows Explorer/Program Files and delete any Napster folders.

Next START /SEARCH and see if there are any other Napster entries. If so delete them.

Next START/RUN/Type regedit

In regedit click FILE /Export. Give the file a name, I would of course suggest REGISTRY and export it to the desktop. This is for safety in case you delete anything that you shouldn't.

Then open H Key current user and open software. Delete any referenced to napster.

Then open H Key Local machine/Software and again delete any references to Napster.

Close the registry editor, and restart the machine. You should now be free of Napster. If all seems OK and everything is running as it should, run a scan with RegScrubXP.

Save the exported copy of the registry on your desktop for a few days and ensure that all is running OK. You can then safely right click and select DELETE.

In the extremely unlikely event that things should not run right, restore from RegScrub XP. Next right click on the desktop registry icon and select merge.

All of this should be taken care of with RegScrubXP...
