What are the advantages of the 64 bit technology, how does it work and what was the history of its introduction on the consumer market, all these topics wiere debated in this article. It’s clear that Windows XP Professional x64 Edition will provide the necessary support for the 64 bit applications, but it will take another year for their appearance. Until then, those who’ll chose to install this version of Windows will have to run 32-bit applications. So the next question arises: Is it worth it to install the 64-bit Windows and give up your old Windows XP? The only thing you need to update to 64 bit is new drivers. Look for them in advance. They have no penalty for running in 32 bit mode, and some may benefit from running in 64 bit indirectly.For me, I can't go 64 bit as of yet because my NIC driver is not available. trackrat Posted April 21, 2005 Report Share Posted April 21, 2005 You also need 64 bit drivers for SATA drives before you install it.There are no 64 bit drivers yet for canon scanners, its bad enough that my scanner will not work on SuSe but it will work on 32 bit XP, so I will wait till all the drivers I need are available for all my peripherals before I change.
