It's best to not use an administrator account as a daily account. Using Limited accounts can help protect you from viruses and spyware. Use the Administrator account to install programs and make system wide changes.

This post is relevant as perhaps the thread starter may want to know whether an Administrator Account is in use as a daily account or not.

When I boot up Windows XP, I get no user log-in screen and go straight to the desktop after seeing the Welcome screen.

Whilst in Windows when I go to Control Panel > User Accounts, I get what is shown in my screenshot.

I am going to ask the question that if me or other users get the same combination of events as detailed above, would we be running an Administrator Account as a daily account or not? :unsure:

If not that is bad.

Would I be right in thinking that the Guest account should be on and log in off that? :unsure:

I have always run XP like this for the last 3 years or so and so I don't know any other way!

Take a look here. You want to set up Limited user accounts. My suggestion would be to set up a limited account and use it daily until you get used to it, then delete the excess admin accounts (make sure to leave one password protected administrator account active so you can still install software etc).

I have set up the limited user account called Power User. In that way any nasties that get into my PC have limited rights and cannot do too much damage :rolleyes:

only works when you have a password assigned to Administrator. I am the only one to use this PC so I have no passwords at all.

Therefore I cannot use the "Run program as" function.

Having said that I still recommend you have a limited user account, such as Power User, for your day to day activities on the PC. :)
