i'm trying to set up a linksys router on ntl bb and xp. the set up instruction say

there are 4 types of configuration

auto config dhcp

static ip

pppoe

pptp

does anybody know which ntl use

Hi pwp, I use an older linksys with NTL and I have the "obtain IP Automatically" option set on mine, which would equate to "auto config dhcp" from your list.

I do have your other options as well as some more, but these are not used.

auto config dhcp - Dynamic Host Control Protocol. means your IP address is dynamically defined when you connect.

static ip - You make your IP and it never changes unless you change it.

pppoe - Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet. Used for DSL connections.

pptp - Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol. used for VPN (Virtual Private Networks)

i had a go last night and my ntl modem packed up.

unfortunately due to my work comitments it wont be fixed till tuesday,

it seemed pretty straight forward and i managed to surf the net once

then while trying to get the two comps to talk to each other the modem packed

up.

so i,ll see how i get on then.
