savak Posted June 13, 2005 Report Share Posted June 13, 2005 Funny problem this.Just upgraded(?) from Windows 2000 Pro to XP, when I want to lock the computer the task manager comes up instead which does not allow me to lock the computer.As I'm new to XP is there anything wrong and how can I fix it so that I can quickly lock the computer when away from my desk.ThanksGraeme Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted June 13, 2005 Report Share Posted June 13, 2005 Ctrl, Alt, Del does not work in the same way on XP as it did on previous versions of Windows. What you are seeing is correct.As for locking the screen, you will have to take other's advice on this as I never have need to do it. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted June 15, 2005 Report Share Posted June 15, 2005 I found this information on several places on the InternetWindows 2000 CTRL+ALT+DEL StyleIf you want the Windows 2000 CTRL+ALT+DEL screen to appear in XP instead of immediatly jumping to the task manager simply deactivate the welcome screen:start > settings > control panel > change the way users log on and log off > uncheck "Use the welcome screen"now reboot your machine (it didnt work on my machine until I rebooted). now when you use CTRL+ALT+DEL you can do all the same things you could with 2000 (eg. Lock The Computer or force a shutdown)I would love to make my only standalone system working "normal" as any other system, but I cannot find anything "change the way users log on and log off" in my Control Panel - classic or XP mode.Any suggestions? Even on Kelly's Korner website at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_wel_screen.htm he claims that.Could it be that it disappeared with SP2? But still, there must be a registry entry to change that.
