Tony Posted June 28, 2005 Report Share Posted June 28, 2005 Hi allOk i have a Cordless Optical MS IntelliMouse Explorer mouse, which is about 3 years old. It is connected via USB direct from the PC (XP Home SP2).Now over the last 4 or 5 days the mouse has been hanging (no connection with the receiver unit) and pressing the button on the receiver or the mouse makes no difference at all, once it has hanged it stays hanged.The PC is running fine, i can still navigate the pc via the keyboard (there you go the mouse has lost it's connection now as i am typing this) sometimes it can last a couple of hours and other times it only lasts a couple of minutes (like now)The batteries are fine and the mouse software also says they are fine.I am running the latest MS mouse software Ver 5 i think.I have un-installed the software and re-installed it, but it is the same.In every other repect the PC is running great, I also have a mouse plugged into the PS2 port which is also not working for some reason, i have run 2 mice on this computer for a couple of years now with no bother, Now the PS2 mouse does not work at all even when the USB one is working.So any guesses on what could be wrong?CheersTony Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted June 28, 2005 Report Share Posted June 28, 2005 It could be that your mouse has worn out.Being mechanical devices they are subject to friction wear and fatigue, it may be that.Regarding a PS2 mouse not working, that could be due to the PS2 fuse having blown on the M/B - very common if you hot plug something into the port or, sometimes it just happens. Tony Posted June 28, 2005 Author Report Share Posted June 28, 2005 Hi PopsI have just connected it through the powered USB hub i have, and so far it is ok, since i posted the thread it has hung 5 or 6 times, i was getting about 60 seconds with it, but at the momentit has lasted over 10 min's :ninja: I shall have to wait and see.As for it being subject to friction wear and fatigue, the only moving parts on it are the buttons so unless a capasitor or IC is over heating and failing, it should not suffer from this, but hey what do i know, this is a Microsoft product we are talking about :D I will let you know how it gets on.TonyPS it is still working at the moment :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Is there a wheel on it?Problem with mechanical faults is that they are often intermittent, sometimes showing themselves, sometimes not.As for it being a Microsoft product, well it is only badged with that name. Mine (similar product) says Made in China on its underside and it problably comes out of the same factory (or sweatshop) as loads of other brands.If it's still happening, get hold of different USB wired mouse and try that. You say you have a cordless mouse, but also say it is connected to a USB hub.I, too, have had this problem recently, with my wireless optical mouse. I was about to look into buying a new mouse (can one buy a new mouse on it's own, or do you have to get a keyboard and a receiving unit also?) when I tried moving the receiving unit around to a different position and since then (three days or so) I have had no problems.
