doug
How can I check for that. I'm slowly making backups and copies at the moment.
doug
Progress. I think. It looks like it's been a hardware problem - namely the mobo/CDRW. I was just doing a back up last night when the PC went off into a re-start all by itself and of course it came up with that problem screen again. Now I'd had a problem a couple of years back with not being able to boot up properly and finished up buying a new CD burner. So , this morning, I disconnected this drive and have now successfully re-started 3 times after allowing a few hours heat soak.So my next trick is to re-connect the burner and see if it was simply a cable seating problem although I did check all the cables previously. Will report in due course.Perhaps I should have posted this thread in the hardware section after all!
doug
Well, that wasn't the answer. I had even spaced out the optical drives to ensure there was plenty of room for air movement. Has just run a final check after an hour of running. CPU temp reached 48, MB 29, and main HD 37. Tried a re-start and got the fault again. So must be something else because re-starting a short while after a hard switch off starts OK.
