deuces wild
DWSecond question....who do you think makes a better beer....England or Germany? The Germans do make better lagers than the British .........I have had some English and German beers (imports) and find them full flavored, heavy (they must have been ale's or stout's)....and very good. Our U.S. beer must taste like water to you folks in Europe. :D Here are a couple of interesting webpages on beer, including beer forums. I guess some folks really like their beer. http://www.realbeer.com/http://www.realbeer.com/edu/index.phpI never knew it before but last month was National Beer month in the U.S.
andsome
I have visited the US several times, and have to admit that the beer does taste rather like bitter fizzy pop. Many Americans complain about British pub beer being what they call luke warm. In fact British beer is meant to be cooled , not chilled to just above freezing point. There is nothing better on a hot day than sitting in the sun, with a pint of draught bitter, and a plate of cheddar cheese, fresh bread and a spanish onion. It is unforunate that few pubs now seem to offer this simple fare, having replced it with what they call a ploughmans lunch. I cannot imagine any self respecting ploughman taking for his lunch, a few limp lettuce leaves, a couple of pickled onions, a slice or two of plastic white sliced bread and a dollop of Branston pickle, with a chunk of imported SO CALLED cheddar. A sign of the times I'm afraid.
Tankus
LAGER????? You can't call that BEERI dont think that there is much of a distinction in the US ........ most of the US beers that Ive tried appear to be light/meduim lagers
Tankus
Heh Andsome ...from DW's link ...the UK Beers festival awards ...check out the prize list ..... looks like to me the "southern" beers have won far more prizes than the the north or midlands .....Nice to see a Brain's dark in there too ..after-all Kent has got the best hopsIncidentally .....catgate if you like old peculiar .....you should check out Fullers "Golden Pride" ... It looks like a lighter brew (amber) , but it runs at 8.5% ..... It doesn't have the heaviness/very bitter aftertaste that a lot of heavies seem have at this percentage ...(well to me at any rate) ...nice ...if your in the mood..... first time that Ive had it (last night ) Its definitely a repeat buy for me ... rong
I like this, the Germans obviously need something to take their minds off what they are drinking.from DW's linkBavarian cover-up avoidedBeer garden barmaids can keep their figure-hugging dirndlsAug 3, 2005 - Bavarians breathed a collective sigh of relief this week when they learned legislation would not force barmaids in beer gardens to cover up.ADVERTISEMENTUnder the EU's Optical Radiation Directive, employers of staff who work outdoors in high-risk professions must ensure they cover up against the risk of sunburn. Rumors swept Bavaria early in the week that the law could mean the demise of the dirndl. Bavarian barmaids typically dress in a costume known as a dirndl, a dress and apron with a tight, low-cut top whose figure-hugging effect is enhanced by a short white blouse.Officials finally said that working in a beer garden is not considered a high-risk occupation - at least for sun exposure. Before the ruling, Bavarians were already protesting."This is European law-making at its most pedantic," said Munich's mayor, Christian Ude. "A waitress is no longer allowed to wander round a beer garden with a plunging neckline. I would not want to enter a beer garden under these conditions."A spokesman for the Bavarian Hotel and Restaurant Union said: "I have spoken to lots of waitresses and none of them have told me that sunburn in the décolleté area has ever been a problem."Organizers of the world's biggest beer festival, Munich's Oktoberfest, were particularly angry at the proposed ban. "This is an attack on the traditions of a region," said a spokesman.

Portugal to FranceQuite hot ;) its a bit cooler today though 29 in the shade, but it will stay like that that probably all evening also.Where i live you can see the helicoptors and planes picking the water up for the fire fighting, usually the fires are in the mountains, but a few have been close to houses meaning evacuation.Last year we were working in Mijas about 2 k from a really big fire that broke out, that got a bit scary cos they were bombing it with 2 planes and a helicoptor for about an hour and a half before it was under control. That day it was 52c in the sun, we were working under a big brollie ;) Sorry to go off topic, but the firemen did have a couple of beers after :D
