Have NTL gone mad?

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, but what on earth can be the motive. I just had a telephone bill in from NTL. Enclosed was a leaflet suggesting that I telephoned NTL sales on a freephone number, to discuss the latest offers for EXISTING BB users. I was asked to confirm what speed I was on and I told him 2MB. He said that I could have a reduction from £24.99 per month to £8.99 per month if I went onto 1MB. Quite a reduction in price, but also only half the speed. I thought it over and decided to stay where I was. He then said that he could offer my existing speed of 2MB at a reduced price of £16.99 instead of £24.99. Naturally I agreed. But, why on earth are they doing this? Why offer a satisfied customer a price reduction of 32% for no reason, without being asked. Surely it isn't April 1st.

Just consider it from another angle, just how pissed off would you have been if you found out new customers were only paying £16.99 and you'd been left paying £24.99 for the same service ?

VERY, But are they??

I received my telephone bill from NTL this morning and it also contained the leaflet for deals for existing broadband users. Being as I have telephone, full TV package and 1mb b/b I was told the only deal they could do was to reduce my b/b payment from £17.99 to £8.50 a month. :D

As I said, they offered me 1MB for £8.99 too, but I am already on 2MB and said that I would not be happy with a reduction in speed. It was then that he offered to reduce my price to £16.99. I suggest that you try again. I packed up the TV service in the early summer as I was fed up with repeated problems with the digital box. I am now a confirmed Sky fan.
