The Grump
Let's see what happens in May. Will you still be in the premiership? Will Owen be looking for another club who can offer him regular European football, he will not get that at Newcastle? Don't forget that if Liverpool had been willing to pay the asking price, he would not have been at Newcastle as they was his second choice. One player does not make a team, as Shearer can tell you. Rebel=UK=
We have Quality players, look @ Parker, Luque, Emre . Ok we are at the bottom on the league now, but look at the temas we have played upuntil now, r first game was Arsenal, then a couple of weeks later man u. Not many clubs expect to get results from them, especially when we only had 1 striker available at the time. The weakest link is defence and Boumsong admitted his mistakes against man U. Rebel=UK=
Will this great personality stay when NU go down at the end of the season? The season has just started, and now we r talking about the end of the season and somehow made the assumption that Newcastle r going down. You know the saying, "Assume makes an ass of u and me"
andsome
How about £5 to the charity of the choice of the winner. That gives you odds of over 20-1. I pay if they stay up, you pay if they go down. My charity will be our local hospice St Giles at Whittington in Staffordshire. Are you willing to have a gamble with such odds in your favour? Robbers Dog
If the World Cup had not been next year, do you think Owen would have left a world class side like Real Madrid to go to a club who have not won a major trophy in the past 50 years. :roflmao:

Newcastle paid a high price for him and also are meeting his wage demands so he couldn't stay with the Spanish club. It seems Benitez was not a fan of Owen and anyway Liverpool couldn't afford the asking price although my own feeling is that they will regret it.But England need an in form striker playing regularly. I just hope his suspect hamstring doesn't cause trouble.Thos :cheers2:
The Grump
Doesn't it seem strange that none of the top Clubs was willing to pay the inflated asking price. Only the Geordie's were daft enough to pay double what Real Madrid payed Liverpool for him only last year. Not bad for a player who could not get a regular first team place. Look at the table now:1 Chelsea 2 Manchester City 3 Charlton Athletic 4 Manchester United 5 Bolton Wanderers 6 Tottenham Hotspur 7 Arsenal 8 Aston Villa 9 West Ham United 10 Liverpool 11 Blackburn Rovers 12 Middlesbrough 13 Birmingham City 14 Fulham 15 West Bromwich Albion 16 Wigan Athletic 17 Everton 18 Portsmouth 19 Newcastle United 20 SunderlandManchester City & Charlton Athletic above Arsenal & Man U....let the table settle and then judge. Newcastle are the 11th richest club in the world we aint going down thats for sure
Robbers Dog
How long will Owen stop with the £12m get-out clause that will surely be activated if Newcastle fail once again and Owen flourishes in the World Cup in Germany.Owen as no loyalty to any club as he proved with his delaying tactics on signing a new contract at Liverpool before his transfer to Real Madrid.
