If you really want to see and hear the guitar played properly, then tune into the first half of 'Last Night of the Proms', on BBC 1 tonight. John Williams will show you how the guitar should be played, making proper individual notes, as distinct from top of the pops where it is usually just strummed and accompanied by shouting and screaming. A musical lesson for aspiring guitarists.

As far as I know (from what I hear of it) TOTP is absolute crap, but I've never watched it and I never intend to.

I certainly am a guitar lover and I have plenty of "properly played" guitar in my CD collection.

I recommend that anyone who enjoys good guitar should listen to some of the late Elliott Smith's music... he was really a genius. Even you might like some of them andsome :)

Leaving out most of the blues players, can he even be better than Gary Moore, Santana, Slash, etc. Any of them could give him lessons.

A few of the Spanish boys that play at the markets could show him a trick or two also ;)

I would like to have a listen, but don't want to buy in case I don't like. Anything on line by chance???

It seems that most so far are in agreement about TOTP. I had hoped to start a musical discussion, and it looks like I have succeeded. :D :D :D

Glad you enjoyed it, I was mesmerised with his fingering. He certainly made some of the pop people who have been paid millions for mere strumming look pretty silly. I used to play piano as a kid, and I know the difficulties involved in fingering the notes properly on that. It was an amazing performance.

It sounds like it lived up to your expectations andsome!

Is it being shown worldwide or just in Europe?

The last night of the proms is usually shown in most countries of the world live. It is a unique occasion, with NO other classical concert like it in the world.
