deuces wild
My wife deleted a program (PowerQuest Drive Image) from her computer. I suspect she just deleted the files manually instead of going through add/remove programs. So now when she starts a Printshop program a "windows installer" box appears, then a box showing that "drive image is now installing". After that a box show up "RTC File Error". This happens for 3 consecutive times and then the Printshop program opens and runs without a problem. I have run several repair programs to repair the registry thinking that there are some files remaining from Drive Image. The problem, however, continues. Any suggestion? expertec
Reinstall DriveImage and then remove it properly, or not at all, as required
deuces wild
It will not reinstall. I get the same RTC File error message and then it shuts down.
expertec
System restore?
deuces wild
Not an option at this point as it was not activated (unknown to me) until I found out yesterday. We do have a backup from last year but that would be my last resort if there is no fix for this (or my wife will have to live with the slight inconvenience). Thanks
andsome
Have you tried START/SEARCH, then type the name of the program after electing to search ALL files including hidden? Then delete everything that you find. Are you then confident about looking in the registry? I have never had any bother doing this as I always EXPORT it first, ready for re-merging if anything goes wrong. Delete any mentions of that program in HKEY_CURRENT_USER, and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, after opening software in both those keys.

Thanks andsome.........it solved the problem. Have a good evening. :)

deuces wild
Thanks, but based on the unistall problems that program caused, as well as the unbelievable number of entries in the registry, I will pass. We now use Nova Backup. :)
CurlyWhirly
That's strange that you had so much trouble with Drive Image, as I have been using it for years and have had no problems. Before Drive Image 7 I used to use Drive Image 2002.Still as long as you are using a reliable back-up utility, it doesn't really matter which one you use as long as you are happy with it. Anything associated with that company spells disaster for me - even if it was OK before the acquisition so perhaps that's spreading to others :(
